Chapter 19

Dax

When that asshole put his hands on my girl, I was ready to choke the life out of him. To see her beautiful skin marred by his fingerprints pissed me off to no end. We are finally away from him, and Brooklyn no longer has to deal with it.

We are on our way home. I am riding out front, with Noah behind Brooklyn. We rode this same formation when we escorted Phoebe to the compound all those months ago. I am trying to make sure we do not have anyone following us.

We made our last stop for gas about a half hour ago, and have another hour on the road. The sun is setting, so Brooklyn has her lights on. I happen to catch flashing lights in my mirror. I look closer and realize Noah is blowing his horn and flashing his lights.

Since no one is coming in the left lane, I move over and drop back, next to him, behind Brooklyn. Thank goodness for our advanced hearing. I am able to hear Noah over our pipes.

“We got one coming up our six, fast!”

I do a quick look over my shoulder, and sure enough, there is a mid-size SUV coming after us. I give him one of our hand signals, pulling back up next to Brooklyn. She puts her window down, to hear me.

“Go as fast as you can, get to the clubhouse. Call Phoebe, tell her where we are, and send help, NOW!”

It takes Brooklyn a minute for what I said to sink in. She puts her foot down on the accelerator and takes off. Now that she is out of the way, for now, I can concentrate on the asshole behind us.

Noah and I have both picked up speed, trying to stay ahead of this guy. I have a sneaking suspicion I know who this is. If Charles Thurston was stupid enough to follow us, to get to Brooklyn, he is in for a rude awakening.

Noah and I are riding side by side. I can barely see the tail-lights on Brooklyn’s car. Noah and I have our bikes pushed to their limits, and this motherfucker is still catching up to us.

“Fuck!”

That is the last thing I remember is a feeling of weightlessness, before my world goes dark.
